Cracking the Code: Navigating Today’s Hiring Landscape

The hiring market continues to evolve. Job descriptions are more complex, screening criteria can feel opaque, and applicants are expected to tailor their materials with precision. Whether you are actively exploring new opportunities or simply want to stay informed about current hiring trends, understanding how organizations evaluate candidates is a critical professional skill.

In this session, we will examine today’s hiring landscape through both a broad and practical lens. Using Texas state employment as a real-world case study, we will unpack how job classifications work, how screening criteria are applied, and how candidates can strategically align their experience to posted qualifications. These principles extend beyond state roles and can be applied across industries.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

    • Describe key trends influencing today’s hiring and screening processes

    • Navigate Texas state job boards to locate relevant postings

    • Interpret State Auditor’s Office job classifications to understand state role levels and career progression

    • Analyze a Texas state job description to identify screening criteria and minimum qualifications

    • Identify strategies for aligning resume language with stated qualifications

    • Determine next steps if considering state employment or similar structured hiring systems

This session is ideal for talent development professionals who want to better understand hiring systems, strengthen their own career strategy, and gain insights they can also apply when supporting others in career development.

This chapter meeting is a complimentary event for ATD Austin Members.

Guests are invited for just $15!

Invisible Leadership: Creating Safety and Stability Without a Title

In today’s workplace, people are carrying a quiet but constant sense of instability—whether it’s market uncertainty, AI-driven role shifts, or the feeling that work has become endlessly fragmented.

The impact is measurable: the APA reports that 54% of U.S. workers say job insecurity is significantly affecting their stress at work, and Microsoft’s Work Trend Index found 48% of employees say their work feels chaotic and fragmented.

This session gives leaders, managers, and L&D professionals a practical, human-centered way to reduce noise, build trust, and increase learning readiness—so people can do their best work even when the environment feels uncertain.

    Leave with

    • A simple 3-pillar Invisible Leadership framework—Safety, Clarity, Support—to create stability without a title.
    • Practical micro-skills + language cues that build trust and psychological safety fast (especially in change and high workload).
    • A ready-to-use 2-week Stability Sprint with quick pulse checks to measure improvements in safety, engagement, and learning transfer
