Online Technical Training Show & Tell

with Linda Warren and Mary Word

Technical training is sometimes given the bad rap for being "dry" or boring. So, the challenge of creating engaging, interesting training is a big one. Add to that the all-important issue of ensuring new knowledge and skills are applied to the job, and you have a tall order.

Mary Word and Linda Warren have created hours of online technical courses for MicroAssist clients. In this session, they'll share some of their success secrets and demonstrate simulations and other techniques used in the courses they created.

This presentation will cover:

  • Instructional design considerations
  • How to organize a complex course
  • Capturing, organizing and editing images
  • Identifying and leveraging repeatable functions

About the Speakers

Linda Warren is a senior instructional designer at Thornton Tomasetti, a global engineering firm based in New York City. She has a Master of Education degree in Instructional Technology and holds the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential from the American Society for Training & Development. Linda has substantial experience designing technical online training in healthcare and administrative systems through her previous work for McKesson and MicroAssist.

Mary Elizabeth Word has worked in the Multimedia/eLearning field since 1995, with companies as diverse as Cortex Communications, SCCI, and MicroAssist. This area has allowed her to merge her degrees in Fine Arts and Computer Science into a field which requires both the technical background of a programmer and the design eye of an artist. Prior to entering the multimedia field, she gained technical and design expertise at IBM, Texaco, and James Avery Craftsman.
