This summer and fall, Austin ASTD is piloting a program for those interested in rapid e-learning design and development. Complete the program and develop a professional module for your portfolio!

To learn more about this first of a kind program offered by Austin ASTD check out this flyer.

Part 1: Web-Based Training (WBT) Design Fundamentals

Great Voyages is a series of five hour-long presentations on the journey encountered when you transition instructor-led training to web-based training. Topics include:

1.       Getting started and key concepts
2.       Understanding the web as a medium
3.       How to write for the web based on how people   read online
4.       Visual design

5.       Usability and accessibility

While the subject of this series is creating online training, it is important to note that these presentations are reproduction of live presentations and were not redesigned to implement best practices for online courses. Topics in the series are broad based and cover many different approaches to learning online. Concepts and recommendations are not targeted to any particular development tool. Many of the examples were created with applications other than rapid e-learning development tools.

This course is designed for learning and development professionals who have solid understanding of instructional design principles, but who have little to no experience designing online training.

Instructions:

The training is designed to be viewed on any PC or Mac and should work with all of the popular browsers. It should also work on iPads.

About The WBT Designer

Linda Warren leads the E-Learning team at MicroAssist. She has the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential, a master of education degree in instructional technology, and a bachelor of art degree in biomedical communication arts. She has designed E-Learning products for graduate level courses at universities, state agencies, and private corporations. Her courses are in diverse subject areas including healthcare, electronic medical record keeping, business administrative systems, real estate, accounting, business law, statistics, and mathematics.

Before focusing on E-Learning, Linda worked as a visual communicator where she used static and motion graphics to educate audiences about complex and abstract medical subjects. Her visual art background, college-level teaching experience, and web design work naturally lead to her interest in E-Learning.

Linda is involved in several professional organizations. As an advisor to the Vesalius Trust for Visual Communications in the Health Sciences, she has been coordinating evaluation of innovative professional training in medicine for more than 10 years. She is Past President of the Austin chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). She is also Vice Chair of the Association of Medical Illustrators Accreditation committee where she conducts curriculum accreditation reviews and determines entry level competencies for graduates of medical illustration programs.
