Chatty G Indahouse: The Evolution of AI in Instructional Design

with Matt Fulmer

In this month's Instructional Design Community of Practice, we’ll explore how artificial intelligence—once viewed as a shiny novelty in the world of instructional design—has matured into a powerful, everyday tool.

We'll trace the early days of AI experimentation, when designers cautiously explored chatbots and automation, to today’s increasingly sophisticated landscape where AI supports content creation, assessment design, learner analytics, and accessibility enhancements. This session will unpack the practical, ethical, and pedagogical shifts that have shaped our evolving relationship with AI technologies in learning environments.

But we won’t stop there. The core of this discussion examines the emerging idea that AI is no longer just a tool but a coworker—a collaborative partner that brings speed, adaptability, and surprising insight to the instructional design process.

We’ll discuss real-world examples of designers co-creating with AI, the changing skillsets needed to thrive in this new dynamic, and how to maintain human-centered values while working alongside intelligent systems. Whether you're AI-curious or already deep in the game, join us to rethink what collaboration means in the age of Chatty G.
