Instructional Design Community: Generative AI Ethics and Policy

With Kyle Wallace – Director of the Instructional Design CoP

Generative AI now allows instructional designers to do everything from creating course outlines to generating images, audio, and video, to even acting as a subject matter expert and co-designer! But with these exciting new capabilities comes the new constraint of using AI tools ethically and responsibly.

Join us for this month’s Instructional Design COP, where we’ll be exploring the vital intersection of AI policy and ethics within instructional design. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into educational practices and the development of courses and materials, it's imperative to establish frameworks that prioritize ethical considerations.

In this session, we'll discuss the complexities of crafting AI policies tailored to educational and/or training settings, addressing issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and equitable access, and explore practical strategies for fostering responsible AI adoption with ethical guidelines to ensure that AI-driven instructional design aligns with our values of fairness, transparency, and inclusivity.

Let’s navigate the evolving landscape of AI ethics in learning together!

About Your Facilitator:

Kyle Wallace is Senior Instructional Design Manager at TASBO, working to develop online and hybrid course content and provide educational technology support for online learners. He graduated from UT-Austin and is currently pursing his Master's degree from Arizona State University. His background and experience has been in marketing, SaaS, and advertising but he is now combining those skills with his instructional design training to enhance learning experience. In his spare time, he created a non-profit dedicated to closing education and food inequities with focus on bridging the special education gaps in Texas schools.

Outside of work, you can usually find Kyle copying the best bakes from the Great British Bake-off, building a chatbot for some random automation, or in the fall, you can always find him at DKR being loud and staying late. Hook'em!

The ATD Austin Chapter has been pre-approved by the ATD Certification Institute to offer educational programs that can be used towards initial eligibility and recertification of the Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) and Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) credentials. This program qualifies for a maximum of 1 point.
