Making a STATEment on State Applications

Have you been applying for position after position with state agencies and getting nowhere? Are you wondering why you keep getting passed over for interviews? Is there some sort of trick that nobody has shared yet? Well, in simple terms, YES! Or at least, maybe ...

Join Melissa Victor Totah as she explains the deceptively simple process of filling out state applications. Yes, there is a method to the madness, and -- believe it or not -- learning to embrace the bureaucracy can even be fun!

This session will cover:

  • How NOT to "draw a blank" or get yourself screened out
  • Incorporating keywords and key phrases without plagiarizing
  • Describing your skills using "bureaucra-speak"
  • Why the "Special Training/Skills/Qualifications" section is your new best friend

About The Speaker

Melissa Victor Totah is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) in the state of Texas. She became familiar with the process of filling out state applications while working as a Career Facilitator with Workforce Solutions of Williamson County from December 2009 through September 2012. Melissa specializes in working with job seekers in transition, helping them to effectively leverage strengths and cope with changes in identity.
