Are you a K-12 teacher, higher education professional, adjunct instructor, professor, or instructional coach thinking about or in the process of pivoting your career to corporate learning and development (L&D)?

Making the transition to talent development happens all the time. You have a plethora of skills needed by the business sector, but where do you start?

In this session, you will hear from former educators who made the transition within the past few years. Come and be inspired by their stories, hear how they did it, and how you can make your own transition happen. Learn strategies for job searching, networking, and building a resume that aligns your former experiences to corporate training opportunities.

Our goals. By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Translate your skills from teacher to corporate trainer
  • Create a resume that opens doors to training opportunities
  • Apply ideas to help you begin or continue your transition to the corporate L&D space
Meet the presenters:

Shannon Sherwood is a former bilingual/ESL teacher, K-12 professional development Texas educator, and textbook/online materials consultant who now manages a training department and team of trainers for a large corporate contract.

Jessica Worley came to our presentation in March 2019, applied some of the strategies, and transitioned from instructional coach at a middle school to a contract job for Apple to instructional design at MicroAssist.

Lauren Shingleton transitioned from lead teacher at a preschool to training delivery specialist, instructional designer, and LMS administrator. While she currently works for EZCORP, she has experience at YETI Coolers and Verdtek.
