Our ATD Austin SIG held the 2nd month of each quarter on 4th Tuesdays!

Session leaders are local CPLPs who have a range of work responsibilities. Each CPLP SIG host will select a talent discussion topic relevant to their interests.

Have you ever picked up a training “games” resource and thought…well that would be nice, if I was teaching the example topic, but it won’t work for my current project?  So often the examples for training games seem limited in application.

I don’t feel limited that way.  Come join us and explore my world of interactive learning events (ILEs), which many people call “training games.”  I coined ILE to get away from the occasional stigmatisms associated with “games” in the workplace.

We’ll focus on different ILEs that are appropriate for Instructor-led Training.  We’ll explore at least 3 ILEs to learn and share with and you’ll have access to a handout of over 20 ILEs, including an article Star wrote on using ILEs for Virtual Instructor-led Training.

ILEs are so versatile; many can be used to help meetings organize and make decisions about performance opportunities.  A key part of ILEs is that people must participate in them.  So be prepared to practice them!ccasionally acts as consultant, coach, and public speaker specializing in Instructional Design, Training, and Performance Improvement.  She has over 20 years experience in Workplace Learning and Performance.  She holds a Master of Science in Instructional and Performance Technology from Boise State University and is an accredited Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP).

Using available resources, the presentation participant will:

  • Discuss the barriers to using term “game” in workplace learning.
  • Execute three ILEs, such as an interactive lecture technique, frame game, and alternative approach to common brainstorming.
  • Identify techniques to increase an activity’s effectiveness for learning.

Jane “Star” Fisher, CPLP is all about developing others and herself.

Star excels at creating Interactive Learning Events (ILEs) to maximize classroom learning and student participation and has been referred to as the “Games Guru.”

She works as a Senior Instructional Designer at Aurigo.  She also occasionally acts as consultant, coach, and public speaker specializing in Instructional Design, Training, and Performance Improvement.  She has over 20 years experience in Workplace Learning and Performance.  She holds a Master of Science in Instructional and Performance Technology from Boise State University and is an accredited Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP).

In 2011, Austin ATD (then ASTD) recognized her as “Exemplary CPLP Trainer,” a unique award. This training is actually similar to what Star did as a Work Product to earn her CPLP.
