Blended Learning Case Study: from Mix to Seamless

with Shauna Herman and Miles Durkee

How do you blend SMEs' training delivery courses, plus Instructional Designers' online training and videos? This was a challenge that Miles Durkee and Shauna Herman took on, along with delivery team members at Luminex.

After a year-long process of analyzing the current curricula and finding the gaps, the team proposed solutions, piloted the solutions on key projects, and evaluated the results. In the end, processes and strategies were changed to create a closer knit team delivering improved, seamless training curriculum.

Miles and Shauna will present the project setup and resulting processes and tools created along the way.

Shauna is a Senior Instructional Designer with the Global Training team at Luminex Corporation in Austin. She is known as an Instructional Designer Geek who recently became CPLP certified. Shauna got into training more than 10 years ago after completing a second degree in Web and Multimedia Design. She has also worked for a consulting company in Houston, creating training for Oil & Gas and Technology companies. She moved to Austin to join the Dell Technical Training Team.

Miles Durkee has been in the training field for the last 15 years. In that time he has done everything from stand-up training, to training development, to reference documentation, to multimedia creation. What does he think makes the most effective training experience? All of it! Miles was recently part of an effort to bring this idea into reality. For him, seeing his team grow together has been one of the most rewarding initiatives of his career.
